One for One

TOMS Shoes was founded on a simple premise: With every pair you purchase, TOMS will give a pair of new shoes to a child in need. One for One. Using the purchasing power of individuals to benefit the greater good is what we're all about. The TOMS One for One business model transforms our customers into benefactors, which allows us to grow a truly sustainable business rather than depending on fundraising for support.

Why shoes?

Many children in developing countries grow up barefoot. Whether at play, doing chores or going to school, these children are at risk:

•A leading cause of disease in developing countries is soil-transmitted diseases, which can penetrate the skin through bare feet. Wearing shoes can help prevent these diseases, and the long-term physical and cognitive harm they cause.

•Wearing shoes also prevents feet from getting cuts and sores. Not only are these injuries painful, they also are dangerous when wounds become infected.

•Many times children can't attend school barefoot because shoes are a required part of their uniform. If they don't have shoes, they don't go to school. If they don't receive an education, they don't have the opportunity to realize their potential.

Lindsay Phillips footwear concept evolved from a high school art project. Amazed by the response, Lindsay began designing functional flops with colorful straps, each adorned by a unique button. Her idea evolved when she realized that by using hook-and-loop fasteners she could create one shoe with many straps–unlimited choices with minimal effort. This simple, yet brilliant innovation was the birth of SwitchFlops. A kaleidoscope of cultures, colors, and patterns influence her strap designs. With the amazing variety of SwitchFlops strap designs and sandals, Lindsay's dream of changing from beach casual to a formal affair in a matter of seconds was realized.

As Lindsay likes to say, "Change your look, not your sole."

Ta-Ta Glasses

by Jody Green

"Ta-Ta" wine glasses, made especially for the tastes of fun-loving women, became known for their energetic colors and unique styles.

Jody, a local Charleston area artist, started hand-painting these fun glasses to resemble her friends' appearances and individual personalities and to lift their spirits when they needed a smile.

Now signed on the bottom for authenticity, the "Ta-Ta"s have become a symbol of friendship and a necessity for any fun-filled "girls night out".

Use your "Ta-Ta" with your oldest and dearest friends or begin a new friendship with this fun gift... and say "ta-ta" to your worries!

A percentage of monthly sales go to the Susan G. Koman foundation because "It's all about the tatas".

P.S. It goes without saying, but men love "ta-ta"s too!

John Medeiros jewelry all comes with a lifetime guarantee.
Each piece is made from:

  • Base Material: Non-precious lead-free premium alloy with .02% of silver which are strong and lightweight.

  • Stones: Man-made Cubic Zirconium which will not chip, crack, cloud or fade. Cubic Zirconium is virtually indistinguishable to the eye by diamond experts, can scratch glass like natural diamonds, and is tougher than a sapphire.
  • Earring Posts: Surgical steel which are ideal for sensitive ears prone to infection or allergies.
  • Hand made in the United States
  • All designs are original, registered, and copyrighted
  • Intricate hand carved detailing on the front, sides, and back

In 1989, Bert and John Jacobs designed their first tee shirt. They knew nothing about the business. For five years, the brothers hawked tee shirts in the streets of Boston and traveled the East Coast, selling door-to-door in college dormitories. They collected some good stories, but were not very prosperous. They lived on peanut butter and jelly, slept in their van, and showered when they could. Chicks were not impressed.

By the Fall of 1994, heading home from a long, less-than-fruitful roadtrip, Bert and John were desperately searching for answers to keep the dream alive. Little did they know, the only answer they needed was back in Boston, hanging up on their apartment wall. Jake's contagious grin, simple as it was, seemed to express everything the Jacobs brothers believed in.

One fateful September day, they printed up 48 Jake shirts for a local street fair in Cambridge, Massachusetts. They laid the shirts out on their rickety card table. By noontime, all 48 of those tees were gone. A star was born. Soon Jake was introduced to local retailers, and his simple message of optimism was embraced like nothing the brothers had ever seen. As demand for product soared, Jake's team grew, and the Little Brand That Could began to spread across America.

Today, the New England based brand stays close to its roots, with an emphasis on simplicity, humor and humility. Through Life is good Festivals, positive products, and a steady dose of ping pong, Jake's crew does its best to keep the good vibes flowing.
